OVERVIEW

About Wise Business

Wise Business is a digital business account and international payments platform built for companies that receive, hold, convert and send money across borders. It is especially useful for Estonian companies with customers, suppliers or contractors in several countries because it combines multi-currency balances, local receiving details in multiple currencies and relatively transparent FX pricing.

For Estonian businesses, Wise does not charge a standard monthly subscription. Instead, there is a one-time onboarding/account-details fee and transaction fees depend on the currencies and payment route. Team permissions, payment approvals, business cards, accounting integrations and API access make it practical for companies that want finance workflows without using a traditional bank for every transaction.

Wise Europe SA is an authorised payment institution supervised by the National Bank of Belgium. Wise is not a bank: customer money is safeguarded separately from Wise’s own operating funds rather than protected by the Belgian deposit guarantee scheme.

Key strengths

  • No standard monthly subscription for an Estonian business account.
  • Strong multi-currency setup with local receiving details and international payment coverage.
  • Granular team permissions and payment approvals, including one- or two-person approval flows.
  • Useful accounting integrations and API access for automated finance workflows.

Key limitations

  • Wise is a payment institution rather than a traditional bank, so the ordinary Belgian bank deposit guarantee does not apply to the payment account.
  • Eligibility depends on business activity, ownership, country and ongoing compliance checks.
  • Transaction and FX costs vary by currency and route, so the cheapest option depends on the company's actual payment mix.
May not suit

Businesses that specifically require a traditional bank relationship or bank deposit guarantee for their operating balance.
