BUYING CHECKLIST

What should decide your FP&A or reporting tool?

The right tool depends on whether you need simple cash visibility, structured budgeting or a full reporting layer.

Accounting data source

Check whether the tool connects directly to your ledger. Many international FP&A products are strongest with Xero or QuickBooks rather than Estonian accounting systems.

Cash-flow forecasting

For short-term cash decisions, prioritise bank and accounting-data sync, scenario modelling and a forecast that can be updated without rebuilding spreadsheets.

Budgeting & scenarios

Growing teams need version control, department inputs, headcount planning and budget-versus-actual analysis rather than only dashboards.

Management reporting

For board or investor packs, look for consistent KPI definitions, consolidation and presentation-quality reports that refresh from source data.

Multi-entity needs

Group companies should check consolidation, chart-of-accounts mapping, currencies and intercompany handling before committing.

Spreadsheet dependence

If your finance team lives in Excel or Google Sheets, choose a tool that strengthens that workflow rather than forcing a complete rebuild.

DECISION GUIDE

Which reporting setup is likely to fit?

Match the product to the finance problem, not the company size alone.

Simple cash-flow forecasting

Start with: Float or a lightweight forecasting layer when the main question is future cash rather than full FP&A.

Board and management reporting

Start with: Fathom when visual management reporting and straightforward consolidation are the priority.

Structured planning & forecasting

Consider: Jirav, LiveFlow, Abacum or DataRails when you need budgets, scenarios, driver-based planning or more automated reporting.

Estonian accounting data

Check first: whether your ledger has a direct integration. If it does not, the practical solution may still be a controlled export or reporting database rather than a generic FP&A subscription.

FAQ

Questions that affect the choice

Can these tools use data from Estonian accounting software?+

Not always directly. Many global FP&A tools prioritise Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite or spreadsheet connectors. If your bookkeeping is in Merit, Directo or another local system, confirm the integration or plan a reliable export before choosing the reporting tool.

Which tools are strongest for cash-flow forecasting?+

Float is focused on cash forecasting, while broader platforms such as Jirav, LiveFlow and Abacum combine forecasting with budgeting and reporting. Fathom is stronger when visual analysis and management reporting are the main need.

Does a small company need a separate FP&A tool?+

Usually not at the beginning. If monthly P&L, balance sheet and a simple cash forecast answer your decisions, use those first. A separate tool becomes more useful when budgeting, scenarios, departments, investors or multiple entities make spreadsheet reporting difficult to maintain.
